Sunday, Sept. 13 is shaping up to be one wild day at The Toledo Zoo – a Day of Honor, a day to honor Grandparents Day and a day for brides-to-be to plan for their big days.

The Day of Honor is the zoo’s way of paying tribute to the men and women who keep us safe all year. In addition to offering free admission for all police officers, firefighters, EMTs and military personnel when they show their professional ID, the zoo will offer visitors an up-close look at a real fire truck, an ambulance and a police cruiser. Visitors will also see mini-versions of a helicopter and an F-16 fighter and have the opportunity to sign a giant thank-you card for honorees. The cards will be presented at 12:30 p.m.

In addition, there will be crafts and activities, and presenting sponsor Mercy Children’s Hospital will be on hand with free health screenings.

Honoring grandparents
Grandparents Day gives all the nanas and poppas a chance to get in some extra spoiling time as they receive free admission when they bring their grandchildren to the zoo. There will also be crafts and activities and lots of opportunities for intergenerational fun.

I Do
As if all that weren’t enough, the zoo will also host “I Do at the Zoo,” a bridal fair from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. Wedding professionals will be on hand to offer brides-to-be the information they need to make their weddings just perfect. There will even be a chance to win an entire wedding.

The Toledo Zoo, open daily from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., is located on the Anthony Wayne Trail (US 25), four miles south of downtown Toledo. For more information, visit www.toledozoo.org or call 419-385-4040.
Lucas County residents are admitted free of charge each Monday from 10 a.m. to noon. ID showing proof of residency is required.
