Music Under the StarsMusic Under the Stars 2009, a summer series of free musical events featuring the Toledo Concert Band, and led by Sam Szor, continues this summer at the beautiful Toledo Zoo Amphitheatre.

The unique, family-friendly series is now in its 57th year under conductor Sam Szor.  An estimated 2 million loyal audience members have attended since its inception.

The 2009 series will take place every Sunday at 7:30 p.m. now through Aug. 16. There has been a reduction in the number of concerts this year, as sponsor support remains critical to Music Under the Stars operations.

Returning lead sponsors include The Andersons, Inc., Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield and UAW Region 2-B.  Mercy Health Partners has joined these lead sponsors for 2009.  The Toledo Zoo and the Toledo Symphony continue to provide essential in-kind, material, and administrative support.

“This wonderful tradition of free concerts would not be possible were it not for the generous support from the sponsors,” Toledo Concert Band manager, Keith McWatters, said.  “Providing six concerts featuring the area’s most talented professional musicians and entertainers is a wonderful tribute to the sponsor’s investment in quality of life programs for our community and region.”

“I am pleased to begin my 57th season of Music Under the Stars,” Szor said.  “The support of this community has been overwhelming and I look forward to another wonderful season.”

This year's schedule includes:

July 26: Dominant Force: Disney featuring the Pride of Toledo Barbershop Chorus, Cheryl Trace, David Dyer and The Suzuki Kids.

Aug. 2: A Broadway Journey, The Glassmen, Toledo Ballet.

Aug. 9: Leroy Anderson: Musical Events, Heinzman Irish Dance.

Aug. 16: Swingin' Band, Manhattan Dance Company

Note: Although Music Under the Stars is a free concert, non-Toledo Zoo members will have to pay for parking ($6) in the Anthony Wayne Trail parking lot.
