The Bon-Ton Stores, Inc. have announced that it will close its 167,900 square foot Elder-Beerman store in the Woodville Mall in Northwood.

Bon-Ton took over the leasehold interest in the Northwood in 2003 as part of the Elder-Beerman acquisition. The closing, which is scheduled for the middle of September 2009, will affect approximately 60 associates.

“The company continually reviews the performance of its assets, and following a review of the Northwood location, we made the decision to close the store," according to Bud Bergren, president and CEO. "We sincerely appreciate the loyalty and dedication of our associates and the support of our Woodville Mall customers.

"We remain committed to our customers in this community and encourage them to visit our Elder-Beerman store in the Westgate Village Mall,” he said.

The affected associates at the Northwood location may consider available opportunities at the Elder-Beerman Westgate Village store or may opt for severance and state employment benefits.

Currently Elder-Beerman is one of three anchors at the mall, joined by Sears and The Andersons.

The Bon-Ton Stores, Inc. operates 280 stores, including 12 furniture galleries, in 23 states in the Northeast, Midwest and upper Great Plains under the Bon-Ton, Bergner’s, Boston Store, Carson Pirie Scott, Elder-Beerman, Herberger’s and Younkers nameplates and, under the Parisian nameplate, stores in the Detroit area.
