Mercy Cancer Center at St. Charles is now offering patients a state-of-the-art option for radiation therapy.

The addition of the Elekta Synergy® Linear Accelerator provides cancer patients access to targeted radiation treatments that focus on the cancer cells while reducing harmful exposure to healthy tissue.

“Mercy Cancer Center at St. Charles offers leading cancer-treatment technologies that support our mission and provide state-of-the-art, patient-centered care in a compassionate environment,’ said Norma Leslie, manager of the Cancer Center at St. Charles.

The Elekta Synergy® Linear Accelerator uses high-resolution imaging that offers a clear image of not only the tumor, but surrounding critical structures, affording enhanced accuracy of targeting cancer cells while preventing damage to the healthy tissues.

Enhanced imaging helps the physician determine subtle changes in the anatomy and make appropriate changes in targeting on a daily basis.

“We utilize the most advanced technologies for our oncology patients. This allows the patients to have better outcomes not only in terms of tumor control but also in preserving the normal tissues,” said Dr. Rajender Ahuja, radiation oncologist at the Cancer Center. “This technology, combined with our experienced team of cancer specialists, nurses and technologists enables the Mercy Cancer Centers to offer the highest level of specialized cancer care.”
