FREMONT – Built in 1873, the Hayes Presidential Center’s Dillon House is one of Fremont’s finest original Victorian homes. Although not open for tours, the general public can view this magnificent house by attending one of the Dillon House Victorian Teas.
These monthly special events re-create the atmosphere of afternoon tea – a favorite pastime in the 19th century. Dillon House Victorian Teas are held from 1 to 3 p.m. the first Wednesday of the month from April through November. In addition, special Children’s Teas are offered in June, July and August (noted by an asterisk below). The cost is $20/adult, $12/children. Advance reservation is required. Tea guests are treated to tea sandwiches, tea sweets, tea, live piano music, tours of the Dillon House and a featured performer. Since their tables are reserved for the afternoon, guests can wander across the street for a stroll through Rutherford B. Hayes’ beautiful Spiegel Grove estate.
