MILWAUKEE - Many local nonprofit organizations are struggling to reach their fund-raising goals due to the current economic environment.

Elder-Beerman has announced that groups may sign up now to participate in its successful Community Day fundraising opportunity to be held Saturday, Feb. 2. The program provides an opportunity for local 501C-3 organizations to raise the funds needed to support their missions.

Local non-profit groups have already begun selling the $5 Elder-Beerman discount savings booklets to support their organizations. Non-profit groups sell the booklets for $5 and in return, the purchaser receives a $10 off coupon, plus special savings coupons valid on regular and sale price merchandise on Saturday, Feb. 28. In 2008, The Bon-Ton Stores, Inc. helped raise over $10 million for participating nonprofit organizations through the Community Day events.    Organizations that wish to participate in the Spring Community Day event can register now by logging onto http://www.communitydayevent.com, and submitting a registration form. The Web site provides the details of the event. Eligible Community Day organizations include local 501C-3 nonprofit organizations, churches and schools.

“Supporting non-profit organizations and helping others in our communities through this fundraising opportunity is extremely important to our company,” said Bud Bergren, president and chief executive officer of The Bon-Ton Stores, Inc. “This program allows us to make a meaningful impact in our communities, while offering our customers great savings in our stores.”
