Who could resist that face? Lola, a 3-year-old Greater Swiss Mountain Dog, has always been the top dog as far as her owner, Eugene Izsak, of Toledo, is concerned. Last week, Lola’s mug was chosen from among 300 photos in the “Pick of the Litter” photo contest sponsored by the Lucas County auditor’s office to promote the importance of licensing your canine companions.
Lucas County Auditor Anita Lopez and Dog Warden Tom Skelden presented Lola with the No. 1 dog tag for 2009. Her picture will also grace the 2010 dog license renewal forms. The Ohio Revised Code Section 955.01 requires individuals to purchase an annual license for any dog three months or older. Lucas County dog owners must purchase their dog tags through Jan. 31 to avoid incurring a $25 late fee.
The cost for dog licenses is $25. Licensing serves to protect your dog and helps authorities return your pet to you if lost, Skeldon said. Dog licenses are available at: • Lucas County Auditor’s office, One Government Center, Toledo. Call 419-213-4341. • Lucas County Dog Warden’s office, 410 S. Erie St., Toledo.
