Tooling firm consolidating in Fremont

The Brown Machine Group has elected to transition thermoform tooling production to its Freeman Co. facility in Fremont.
The decision was based on Freeman's existing capabilities and workforce as a premier thermoform tooling builder in the U.S., according to management.
“Customers often place initial orders with Freeman based on our facility and advanced capabilities, they become long-term repeat customers because of our people and the unprecedented service and support we provide” said Mike Mullholand, general manager of the Freeman Company.
He said Freeman has a record of innovation and product performance, led by an experienced engineering and production staff.
Brown Machinery Group, a Beaverton, Michigan-based manufacturer of thermoforming and downstream automation equipment, purchased Freeman Co. in January 2018.
The tooling production move consolidates all tooling in one facility and represents an expected 40 percent increase to Freeman’s sales, Mullholand said.
BMG’s Brown/Lyle divisions in Beaverton will focus efforts on growing the company’s equipment and aftermarket business while maintaining their current staffing. Freeman will retain all 70 of its current employees and expects to hire 15 more individuals over the next 12 months to handle the additional tooling work at the Fremont facility.
“I am excited to learn the Freeman Company is growing and adding 15 new jobs” stated Fremont mayor Danny Sanchez. “Freeman is a well-respected manufacturer in our community, and I look forward to all their future success.”
Freeman is currently working to fill open positions for CNC machinists, programmers, as well as a tooling designer position.
