Wendy’s presents check to Adopt America Network
During the month of July, Wendy’s restaurants supported adoption locally, one beach ball at a time. As a thank you to all the customers who donated to the Adopt America Network’s beach ball sale, Wendy’s presented a check for $23,002 to Adopt America Network Sept. 11 at Wendy’s located at 26630 N. Dixie Highway in Perrysburg.
From July 1 through July 31, Wendy’s restaurants in Perrysburg, Rossford, Oregon, Fostoria and Bowling Green strove to raise as much money as possible to defer the cost of an adoption. The cost to adopt one child into a permanent family is an estimated $5,000.
To reach this goal, local Wendy’s restaurants sold paper beach balls for $1. All proceeds benefited the Adopt America Network, located in Toledo. Each year the efforts have grown. Since 2013, Wendy’s has raised $169,973 for Adopt America Network via this fundraiser.
Adopt America is a nonprofit organization committed to improving the lives of children throughout the United States who are in the foster care system, by placing them with permanent, loving families. Currently, there are over 100,000 children in the U.S. foster care system waiting to be adopted.
Wendy’s founder, Dave Thomas, was adopted as a child. He was an advocate for children in foster care and was committed to raising awareness of children who are waiting for permanent homes and loving families in North America. He founded the Dave Thomas Foundation for Adoption, a nonprofit public charity dedicated to increasing adoptions of children in North America’s foster care system. The foundation works in collaboration locally with the Adopt America Network to increase the number of adoptions in Northwest Ohio and southeast Michigan.
