Organizers of the Toledo Night Market, held June 15, presented Read for Literacy, Inc. with $500 from the proceeds of the first-time event. Read for Literacy serves the literacy needs of adults, children, and families in northwest Ohio.
“We are grateful to Toledo Night Market and It’s My Mommy’s Business for the support of literacy services in our community,” said Cheryl Rothschild, Read for Literacy’s Director of Volunteers and Library Outreach. It’s My Mommy’s Business Association, a nonprofit that provides guidance for moms interested in entrepreneurship, operates the Toledo Night Market.
The next Toledo Night Market is scheduled for 6-11 p.m. on Saturday, July 27, and part of the proceeds will benefit Planned Pethood, Inc. Planned Pethood’s mission is to reduce the overpopulation and suffering of dogs and cats through education and low-cost spay/neuter programs and to rescue, vet and place adoptable dogs and cats into good permanent homes.
Inspired by night markets from around the world, the Toledo Night Market transforms the setting of the Toledo Farmers’ Market into an evening of lights, food, live music and culture, with more than 50 local artisans showcasing a wide variety of handmade art, jewelry, clothing, and other items.
“Our first night market was held on a damp spring evening, and we are so very grateful for the approximately 1,200 people who came out to enjoy the event under the roof of the Toledo Farmers’ Market,” said Fancy Moreland, creator of Toledo Night Market and founder of It’s My Mommy’s Business.
General admission for the monthly Toledo Night Markets is $5, admission for military and adults 55+ is $3, and children 12 and under are free. The events will be held rain or shine, and there is free parking at and near the Toledo Farmers’ Market, located at 525 Market St. in downtown Toledo.
