Student stars: Penta Career Center honors class of `23; 50 seniors recognized

        The 58th senior class at Penta Career Center was honored May 16, 17 and 18 during Senior Recognition ceremonies held on the Penta campus.
        This year, 831 seniors from Penta’s career-technical programs, as well as its satellite Marketing Education, Teaching Professions, Industrial Maintenance and Career Based Intervention programs, received Career Passports. Each Career Passport contained a certificate of completion signed by the student’s instructor, supervisor, high school director and superintendent. The Career Passports also included a list of the student’s courses and outcomes; a personal data sheet and other documents listing the student’s accomplishments.
        Penta Outstanding Student awards were presented to 50 seniors based on performance and excellence in their individual career-technical program.
        Local students honored as Penta 2023 Outstanding Students include:
        • Eastwood: Jarod Bonfiglio – Construction Electricity; Camden McWilliams – Construction Remodeling and Nadyah Stone – Precision Machining.
        Lake: Gabrielle Bengela – Dental Assistant and Hayle Hereford – Medical Technologies.
        • Northwood: Alivia Mysinger – Computer-Aided Design; Joey Tammerine – Construction & Building Maintenance; Shelby Wishon – Culinary Arts; Nolan LaFeir – Marketing Education; Toby Cufr – Robotics & Automation; Seth Hart – Powersports & Engine Systems and Jade Wiley – Business.
        • Oak Harbor: Nikales Shanteau – Heating & Air Conditioning Technology and Brandon Connors – Marketing Education.
        • Woodmore: Elijah Wolph – Construction Masonry; Paige Helmke – Exercise Science & Sports Medicine and Lukas Perry – Welding.
        Penta Career Center, a career-technical high school for sophomores, juniors and seniors, serves Anthony Wayne, Benton-Carroll-Salem, Bowling Green, Eastwood, Elmwood, Genoa, Lake, Maumee, North Baltimore, Northwood, Otsego, Perrysburg, Rossford, Springfield, Swanton and Woodmore school districts.

Cardinal Stritch students honored
        Cardinal Stritch Catholic High School & Academy class of 2023 salutatorian was recently honored as “The Young Person of the Year” at the 2023 Prism Awards held by the Eastern Maumee Bay Chamber of Commerce. Quiroga was recognized for her outstanding achievement in community service activities outside of school-based extracurricular activities. She plans to attend The University of Findlay in the fall, majoring in animal science, pre-veterinary medicine.
        Throughout her high school years at Cardinal Stritch, Quiroga was actively involved within the Cardinal community. She competed in four different varsity sports, including cross country, soccer, basketball, and indoor and outdoor track and field.
        She was inducted into the Monsignor Micheal J. Waltz Chapter of the National Honor Society her sophomore year and maintained her membership, serving as a librarian her junior year and the president her senior year. She also became involved in student council her senior year and held the position of treasurer.

        Cardinal Stritch students Onnaliyah Gordan-Perez Carlos and Vincent Matuszewski received a Claire’s Day Claire’s Award for Reading Excellence Award (C.A.R.E.) The students received certificates of achievement and a voucher for one free book of their choice by one of the Claire’s Day visiting authors or illustrators. They will have the opportunity to meet the author or illustrator and have the book signed.
        Julie Hicks, M.Ed., Cardinal Stritch K-12 literacy/intervention specialist worked with teachers to nominate the students.
