Shirley Ann Walters

Shirley Ann Walters, 85, of Millbury, passed away peacefully as the sun rose on August 7, 2024. Shirley was born on November 20, 1938, to Mary Ella (Stewart) and Herschel Gale Harper in Zanesville, Ohio. A standout student, she graduated as valedictorian from Maysville High School in 1956. She met the love of her life, Danny Walters, during a summer visit to her cousins in Toledo, Ohio. After a brief courtship, they were engaged and married on September 14, 1957. Together they had two children, Gregory Dean Walters and Todd David Walters.

 In the early years of their marriage, Shirley worked in an office in Downtown Toledo, often reminiscing about her shopping trips to Tiedtke’s Department Store. She retired in 1998 after 30 years of dedicated service as a payroll clerk at Lake Local Schools. Her retirement years were filled with joy as she tended to her flower gardens, collected pottery, traveled the country with Danny and enjoyed her solo shopping sprees at Franklin Park Mall.

Shirley was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great grand-mother. She cherished her visits with her great-granddaughters and took immense pride in her grandchildren’s achievements.

Shirley was predeceased by her husband, Daniel J. Walters, Jr., and her son, Gregory Dean Walters. She is survived by her son Todd Walters and daughter-in-law Wendy; granddaughter Kylie (Matt) Birchenough; grandson Todd (Sofie) Walters, Jr.; and great-granddaughters, Thayer Harper and Bradlee Grace Birchenough.

A graveside service will be held at The Lake Township Cemetery, 3535 Walbridge Road, Millbury, Ohio, on Friday, August 30th at 11:00 AM. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Jake & Cooper’s Bark Park, 2960 Pickle Road, P. O. Box 167786, Oregon, Ohio, in Shirley’s memory, her warmth, kindness, and cherished memories will remain forever in the hearts of her family and friends.
