Scott J. Hetrick
Scott J. Hetrick, 78, of Elmore, Ohio, passed away suddenly, from natural causes, at his home Monday November 20, 2023. He was born in Fremont, Ohio December 1, 1944 the only son of the late Lamar “Pat” Hetrick and Grace (Joseph) Hetrick, Elmore Ohio. A 1962 graduate of Harris Elmore High School, he enrolled in the United States Navy, serving aboard the U.S.S. Algol, AKA-54.
Scott was a longtime faithful member of the American Legion Post 279, recently receiving a Certificate of Continuous Membership for 50 years. He was an avid reader of books with a deep interest in the history of Native American Culture, The Revolutionary War and World War II.
Scott retired from Brush Wellman Inc, now Materion Corporation, where he was employed from 1968-2006. He was a dedicated employee, co-worker and friend to many there.
He was very active in the Elmore Community and a mainstay at Tina’s Country Market most mornings for coffee, conversation and the local “goings on”. He also looked forward to the lunches at the Ottawa County Senior Center with hometown friends, Sprint Car Races in Fremont, OH Saturday Nights and Golfing weekly, as longtime member of the Sugar Creek Golf Course, participating in the
Tuesday Night and Farmers Golf Leagues.
He was a sports enthusiast and loved to wear the “Regalia & Colors” of his favorite teams. A Loyal Woodmore Wildcats Fan, supporting the Football, Basketball and Track & Field teams, home and away events. Wildcat football season was always a favorite time for Scott with friends watching the game from the fence, rarely missed a game. He also followed College Sports: The Bowling Green Falcons, The Ohio State Buckeyes and The Clemson Tigers, [Clemson University is where his Nephew J.P. Johns attended College], MLB: The Cleveland Guardians, NFL: The Cleveland Browns, NHL: The Philadelphia Flyers & The Detroit Red Wings and ECHL: The Toledo Walleye.
Survived by his Sister, Karen (Hetrick) Johns of Oak Harbor, Ohio, Niece, Amy Johns of Delaware, Ohio and Nephew, J.P. Johns of St. Johns, Florida.
Scott was a lifetime member of Grace Ev. Lutheran Church, Elmore, Ohio. Those planning to make a contribution in Scott J Hetrick’s memory, are asked to consider Grace Ev. Lutheran Church, 19225 W. Witty Rd. Elmore, Ohio.
A Celebration of Life Gathering for Scott will be held 4pm-6pm on Saturday June 1, 2024 at Sugar Creek Golf Course, 950 W. Elmore Eastern Road, Elmore, Ohio. Please join Scott’s Family in fellowship, remembrance and sharing memories of Scott’s Life. A “Picnic Fare” Buffet and beverages will be served.
