Sandusky Co. Visitors Bureau participates in Ohio Tourism Day
Summer is just around the corner, and everyone is ready to travel.
To help spur tourism in Sandusky County, the Sandusky County Visitors Bureau partnered with “Ohio. Find It Here” and joined nearly 100 other attractions from across the state for the 2022 Ohio Tourism Day, held May 11 at the Ohio Statehouse in Columbus.
About 1,000 people looking to make summer plans attended the event.
Every year, Ohio Tourism Day celebrates Ohio’s tourism industry and provides the opportunity for consumers to plan their Ohio vacations while visiting with tourism destinations and attractions throughout the state.
Sandusky County Visitors Bureau set up a display promoting the Sandusky County Historic Jail & Dungeon Tours along with many other attractions, including the Rutherford B Hayes Presidential Library and Museums and the Historic Barn Mural Trail. Bureau staff also promoted the many events planned in Sandusky County communities in 2022.
“Our goal was to talk to potential visitors to Sandusky County eager to learn more about all the exciting things to do in the area,” said David Thornbury, Visitors Bureau marketing director.
“Given the current economy and high cost of fuel this year, we believe there is going to be a big demand for day trips or staycations this year,” Thornbury said. “Our team met with dozens of potential first-time visitors as well as individuals and families who plan to take a trip to Sandusky County, but also spend time at nearby restaurants, retailers, hotels and other attractions.”

Sandusky County Visitors Bureau is 501(c)6 and is funded by lodging tax on hotel room stays in Sandusky County. Its mission is to promote the many area attractions, businesses and events in the community.
