A reward of $25,000 is being offered for information that leads to the arrest of the person or persons responsible for the 1982 murder of a 17-year-old woman in Oregon.
The body of Sharon Ward was found in a field off the 5100 block of Jacobs Road on Feb. 28, 1982.
Oregon police chief Mike Navarre said the case is the only unsolved homicide in the history of the city’s police division.
He said the investigation has determined that a resident of the Port Clinton area, Dale (Jack) Schuller, was with the victim “just prior” to her death and police consider Schuller a “person of interest.”
Schuller was 27 years old in 1982 and is 65 today.
Chief Navarre said investigators have talked with Schuller but he couldn’t disclose details of the conversation.
“The purpose of the reward is for someone out there with verifiable information leading to the arrest of who is responsible whether it’s him or somebody else,” the chief said. “If someone has information about him absolutely we want that whether they think it’s relevant or not. We’re looking for people with information going back to 1982. That’s asking a lot for people to go back in their memories. But we think there is someone out there that has that information.”
The chief said persons with information who wish to remain anonymous can call the Crime Stopper hotline at 419-255-1111 but police prefer they call Sgt. Kelly Thibert at 419-698-7102.
“The sergeant will know what questions to ask and the relevancy of the information,” Chief Navarre said, noting that callers to the police department would also be eligible for the reward.
