Monday, Nov. 16 is the official kick-off date for the Ottawa County Salvation Army Toy Drive – a collaborative effort among The Salvation Army, Toys for Tots “Weapons Company 1/24” and Ottawa County Holiday Bureau.
These agencies partner with other community organizations to assure that needy children through age 18 in Ottawa County receive a gift under the tree this holiday season.
“We are always in need of gift items for all ages, specifically 13-18 years of age,” said Maureen M. Saponari, director, Salvation Army Port Clinton Service Center.
“By partnering, we are able to provide assistance to all who are in need and make our donated dollars stretch, by not duplicating one another,” Saponari said. “Because of this collaboration, last year, more than 7,000 toys were distributed to children in Ottawa County.
This year, drive organizers anticipate serving a minimum of 1,100 children countywide.
Those who would like to help may drop off new, unwrapped toys in collection boxes placed in Ottawa County libraries, churches, banks and businesses Nov. 16 through Dec.11. For a full list of locations, call The Salvation Army at 419-732-ARMY (2769).
Donations may also be mailed to The Salvation Army, 1834 East Perry St., Port Clinton, OH 43452. All donations collected will stay in Ottawa County and serve local residents in need.
         Bell ringers needed
The Salvation Army is looking for volunteer bell ringers for red kettle locations.
“Many of our bell ringers are from churches and organizations that are not at full capacity just yet, due to COVID-19,” Saponari said.
This year’s Red Kettle Campaign goal is $69,000. “We can use all the help we can get,” Saponari said. Call 419-732-ARMY (2769) to sign up or for more info.
