Local author Thomas Walton was the featured speaker during an evening program hosted Sept. 20 by the Oregon Jerusalem Historical Society.
The retired editor and former vice president of The Blade – and a 1961 graduate of Clay High School – shared insightful and humorous excerpts from his book, “Life As We Know It, (Some Assembly Required)” to a sold-out event.
The first floor of the Brandville Schoolhouse was filled with bursts of laughter, and at times – tears as Walton presented passages from his book, which is comprised of 68 of his columns which were published in The Blade over the past 15 years, including a piece that featured his late wife, Dianne, whose love of humor helped inspire his book.       Following the presentation, guests, including some of Walton’s fellow Clay alumni, enjoyed refreshments.
Walton’s column is published every other Sunday in The Blade, and his radio commentary, “Life As We Know It,” can be heard on WGTE public radio every Monday at 5:44 p.m. during “All Things Considered.”
Copies of his book are available through Amazon and at the OJHS Museum Giftshop.
