Oak Harbor Elementary Art Camp a ‘huge success’
A five-day Elementary Student Art Camp hosted by the Oak Harbor High School Art Department June 5-9 was deemed a “huge success.” Two sessions were held, including classes for Rockets ages 3-5 with an adult and a Color Me Fun session for ages 6-9.
Teachers Elly Gilbert and Mackenzie Warren introduced students to art from around the world, as well as creations from various artists.
Students created clay wall hangings and necklaces using Egyptian paste and studied Aboriginal Dot Art, Picasso self-portraits, scratch art and printmaking, among many other art styles.
Following the final day of camp, a well-attended art gallery/reception was set-up in the Oak Harbor High School auditorium lobby to display the creations made during the week.
“Surveys suggest having more art camps like this, as well as multiple weeks of art camps in the future,” Benton-Carroll-Salem Superintendent Guy Parmigian said. “This camp was a great experience for everyone and we look forward to offering more of them in the future.”
