Oak Harbor boys, girls sweep SBC titles

Oak Harbor swept the Sandusky Bay Conference Bay Division track championships at Tru Lay Stadium in Port Clinton.

Behind four league championship races won by Oak Harbor junior Isiah Miller, the boys team scored 176 points to outdistance Huron (165) and Edison (127). Port Clinton and Margaretta tied for fourth with 63 points and Willard scored 36.

The Oak Harbor girls scored 166 to defeat Margaretta (124), Edison (116), Huron (113), Willard (71) and PC (47).

For the boys, Miller won the 110-meter hurdles in 15.32 seconds, defeating Edison senior Garrett Scott (15.83). Miller also won the 100-meter dash, finishing in 11.17, and teammate, sophomore Hayden Buhro, was second in 11.34. Miller got this third win by taking the 300 meter hurdles in 39.51, defeating runner-up PC senior Kieran Mackey (40.42). Miller’s fourth title came in the 200-meter dash, finishing in 22.76 and Buhro placed second (22.9).

Oak Harbor senior Eli Sherman won the 800 meter run in 2:00.86, defeating Huron junior Jacob Eck (2:01.02).

Oak Harbor senior Max Hallett-Szymanski won the long jump, leaping 19-2½ to defeat second place Edison junior Clay Byington (18-7½). Sophomore William Rahm won the pole vault, clearing 11 feet to defeat Huron junior Quin Spitzley (10-6).

The Oak Harbor girls 4x100 relay team of seniors Paige Clune and Elayna Krupp, junior Amelia Mizelle and sophomore Rylee McKitrick finished in a league record time of 49.72, breaking an SBC mark set by a 2017 Perkins squad (49.8). Margaretta (49.84) finished second, over a second behind.

Mizelle went on to win the 300-meter hurdles in 48.07, beating Edison junior Torri Keysor (49.24) by over a second. 

Oak Harbor senior Emma Zibbel won the high jump, clearing five feet, two inches to down Huron sophomore Jaden Carey in a jump-off.

Oak Harbor senior Madison McKitrick leaped 17-¼ to win the long jump, over a half foot longer than Huron sophomore Jaden Carey (16-5¼). Senior Kaitlin Paul won the pole vault, clearing 9-6 to defeat second place Margaretta freshman Eden Palomo, who jumped nine feet.

In the SBC River Division, Gibsonburg girls scored 90 ½ points to finish third behind champion Fremont St. Joseph (106) and Lakota (103). Old Fort (87) was fourth, followed by Hopewell-Loudon (81 ½), Sandusky St. Mary (67), Tiffin Calvert (53) and Danbury (41).

In the SBC River boys, Gibsonburg scored 68 to finish behind H-L (166), Lakota (136) and St. Mary (96). Old Fort (58) was fifth, followed by Danbury (43), New Riegel (31), Calvert (31) and St. Joseph (63).

Gibsonburg junior Austin Rodriguez won the high jump, clearing 6-1 to defeat Hopewell-Loudon freshman Evan Kreais (5-10) by three inches.
