Holiday closure
The Ottawa County Board of Elections office, along with other county and local government offices and schools will be closed Monday, Sept. 5 in observance of the Labor Day holiday.
The elections office, located at 8444 W. SR 163, Suite 101, Oak Harbor, and other government offices and schools will resume regular office hours on Tuesday, Sept. 6. Visit boe.ottawa.oh.gov for more information.

Purple & Gold Dinner
Morrison R. Waite High School is celebrating its 108th year as an educational institution in Toledo. Five Waite graduates will be honored and inducted as Distinguished Alumni at the 58th Annual Purple & Gold Dinner Celebration on Saturday, Oct. 29.
The 2022 inductees include:
• Heather N. Griffin Bean, class of 1994, honored in the field of Education and Community Service.
• Ralph G. Brockett, Ph.D., class of 1972, honored in the field of Education and Community Service.
• Steve M. Junga, class of 1978, honored in the field of Public and Community Service.
• Martin L. Ramirez, class of 1983, honored in the field of Public and Community Service.
• George D. Thompson, class of 1976, honored in the field of Business and Community Service.
Honorees have distinguished themselves as successful adults in their respective careers.
The Purple & Gold dinner, which will be held at St. Michael Centre, 4001 Navarre Ave., Oregon, will begin at 6:30 p.m. with a social hour, gift basket raffle and silent auction. Soft drinks, beer and wine will be provided. Dinner will be served at 7 p.m.
The five Distinguished Alumni inductees will be introduced at 8 p.m. Fellowship will follow from 9:30-11 p.m.
A $50 per person reservation is required for the evening.
On Friday, Oct. 29 at 9:30 a.m., the five Distinguished Alumni will be presented to the current Waite student body and staff at a special program in the high school auditorium. Each inductee will be given an opportunity to speak to the members of the audience.

Sept. 11 remembrance
The Village of Gibsonburg will hold a 9/11 Remembrance Ceremony on Sunday, Sept. 11 at 12 p.m. at the Public Safety Service Memorial at Williams Park.
The memorial stands to honor and remember the tragic events of Sept. 11, 2001 and pay tribute to the public safety service personnel who sacrifice on a daily basis for their communities.

Indian Summer
in the Grove
The Morrison R. Waite High School Alumni Association is sponsoring its fifth Indian Summer in the Grove for all Waite graduates and guests ages 21 and over on Saturday, Sept. 17 from 6-11 p.m. at Oak Shade Grove, 3624 Seaman Rd., Oregon.
Admission is $20 per person, cash only, at the entrance gate, which includes five beer/wine tickets, soft drinks, water and snacks. A cash bar will be available for mixed drinks. Food trucks will be on site. No outside food or beverages will be permitted. Innovations will provide dance music.

Eagle Way Hall
of Fame banquet
The Eastwood Alumni Association will honor the Eagle Way Hall of Fame Class of 2021 and 2022 at a banquet
The 2022 honorees include Dr. Ted Bowlus, honored as community contributor, and Dr. James Kurfess and Dr. Kreigh Spahn, noteworthy alumni.
The Eagle Way Hall of Fame 2021 honorees are the Frobose family, community contributors; Michelle Kahlenberg, M.D., Ph.D., noteworthy alumna; James Opelt, community contributor and noteworthy alumnus, and Jim Welling, noteworthy alumnus and coach.
An induction banquet for the honorees will be held Saturday, Sept. 24 at 6:30 p.m. at Eastwood High School. Doors open at 6 p.m. Tickets are $10 and are available at the Pemberville Public Library, 375 E. Front St.

Electric vehicle

Smell the fresh air in a zero-emission interior. Hear the silence of electric vehicle driving.
The local event of the National Drive Electric Week 2022 is scheduled for Sept. 24 at Pearson Metropark.
Michael Hall, event organizer and president of Electric Auto Association of Northwest Ohio, said anyone planning to attend with an electric vehicle or volunteer should register at https://driveelectricweek.org.

The event will be held rain or shine from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.
There will be food, raffles and door prizes.

Village planning
board to meet
There will be a public meeting of the Village of Walbridge planning board on Sept. 8 at 6 p.m.
The board will discuss the replotting of Meadowgate Estates and an update of acceptable land uses in the village.
The meeting will be held at the municipal building, 705 N. Main St., Walbridge.
