Extension seeking
teen volunteers
The Ohio State University Extension Lucas County educators are looking for teen volunteers to be 4-H Camp Counselors for the 2024 Lucas County 4-H Camp.
The 4-H Camp weekend is Saturday, July 27 through Tuesday, July 30, 2024, at Camp Palmer in Fayette, Ohio.
There is a required $50 fee to cover the cost of the program. Interested volunteers must be 14 years of age by camp weekend and are encouraged to apply by Wednesday, Dec. 20 at go.osu.edu/lucastcapp.
“We are looking for mature, responsible, and caring older teens to provide the best experience for young 4-H campers,” said Jess Soffee, 4-H Educator for Extension Lucas County. “This is a unique opportunity to be active outdoors while working with youth, making new friends and gaining valuable employment skills for the future. We are seeking teens who demonstrate the four key values of the 4-H Clover – Head, Heart, Hands and Health.”
The OSU Extension is a non-profit educational resource for Lucas County. Included within Extension is 4-H – an informal educational youth development program offered to individuals ages 5-19. Besides camping and fair activities, 4-H Youth Development has additional opportunities for in-school and after-school programming in Lucas County.
“We offer camp counselors an opportunity to lead and supervise campers in high-ropes and zip-lining, canoeing, archery, swimming, nature and creature-finding walks, teambuilding challenges and group activities. In addition, we provide 20 hours of training on camp counselor core competencies,” said Soffee. “All of our programming is designed to help educate and embody positive activities and habits for youth in Lucas County.”
