The Toledo Museum of Art (TMA) Art After School Show, which highlights work from area students, is now on display in the Community Gallery, which is located in the first floor of the west wing of the Museum.
“Art After School” is an out-of-school program that partners with local youth service organizations and schools to provide free gallery and studio art experiences throughout the school year. Annually, the program provides more than 1,000 young people with interactive, educational and hands-on out of school art experiences at TMA.
The artwork displayed showcases some of the studio processes explored with participating “Art After School” groups over the past year, including After School All-Starts of Ohio from Birmingham, Hawkins and Walbridge schools, The Boys and Girls Club, East Toledo Family Center, Harvard Elementary, Lucas County Juvenile Justice Center, Toledo School of the Arts, YMCA-Glenwood and YMCA-Rosa Parks.
“The Toledo Museum of Art’s founding principle has always been art education. It is an honor to continue TMA’s legacy of art education through Art After School, which provides hands-on artmaking and gallery interactives for students ages kindergarten through 12th grade with our partner organizations,” said Regina Jankowski, Family Center Manager. “The students have worked extremely hard with their instructors learning new techniques and exploring the galleries, and this installation gives students a wonderful opportunity to showcase their work.”
In addition to “Art After School,” the Museum offers studio art classes year-round for all ages and levels of experience in a wide variety of media.
