Melvin H. Giesler
Melvin H. Giesler, 83 of Elmore, OH died Wednesday, May 8, 2024 at Toledo Hospital
following a brief illness. He was born July 27, 1940 in Elmore, OH to the late Clinton and
Martha (Arndt) Giesler. He was a 1958 graduate of Harris-Elmore High School. On May 4, 1963
he married the former Diane Hennessey, and she survives. Melvin worked 54 years for the
former Brush-Wellman (now Materion) Company retiring in 2012.
Melvin was a life-long farmer, investing much of his free time into managing the family
farm, which to “Mel” was always more of a hobby than work. He enjoyed passing time on the
farm alongside his brother, son, and grandson and the animals they collectively cared for. He was
also a member of SCRAP, and was known to make multiple appearances at the summer SCRAP
show in Gibsonburg, often to show his prized historic tractor. Melvin also enjoyed traveling the
world and had the pleasure of making new memories with his wife, children and grandchildren
on five of the seven continents. While he enjoyed visiting far-flung places, he had a special
appreciation for home, having been a lifelong resident of Elmore, loyal patron of Tina’s Country
Market and The Village Inn, and a proud Woodmore sports supporter.
Survivors include his wife of 61 years, Diane of Elmore; children: Joanne (James) Treece
and Kevin (Laurene) Giesler, both of Elmore, OH; grandchildren: Amanda (Sam) Stefanak,
Courtney Hefflinger, Rebecca (Seth) Arnold, Lindsay & Daniel Giesler; great-grandchildren:
Owen & Caroline Arnold; and brother Carlton Giesler of Perrysburg, OH.
Visitation will be Friday from 2-8pm at Crosser & Priesman Funeral Home & Cremation
Service, Elmore-Genoa Chapel. Funeral Services will begin at 11am on Saturday, May 11, 2024
