Lake Twp. : Residents complain of flooded yards

The latest round of spring showers brought another round of complaints from two residents of Lake Township about standing water in their yards.
Cheryl Roth, Cramer Street, who voiced complaints during a trustees’ meeting in April, said the problem of water in her yard has exacerbated since then along with mosquitoes and mold.
She told the trustees she has an estimate to have a sewer installed but contended the township has a responsibility for addressing flooding conditions along the street.
At the previous meeting, Steve Fry, township road supervisor, said his department had cleaned out catch basins to improve drainage in the area.
Another resident, Michelle Johnson, Lemoyne Road, renewed her complaints about water on her property near the intersection with Latcha Road.
At the April meeting, she said vehicles turning at the intersection track through her property, leaving it rutted and muddy.
Richard Welling, a trustee, said part of the problem at the Johnson property is clogged drain tiles.
The trustees also fielded questions from residents of Bailey Road, who are frustrated with the slow progression of a dispute they have with Jim Mlynek, the owner of Woodville Road Nursery. Last year, he secured a zoning change for property where he stores piles of leaves prior to composting them at his nursery.
The residents say Mlynek isn’t complying with stipulations requiring him to construct a berm with trees along the perimeter of the site along Bailey Road.
Mlynek is challenging a stipulation about the width of the berm.
Mark Hummer, township administrator, said he asked the Wood County prosecutor’s office in March to review a transcript of the township zoning hearing from May 2018 when the trustees approved Mlynek’s zoning request.
He told the residents that Linda Holmes, assistant prosecuting attorney, has been reviewing the matter and has been in contact with Mlynek’s attorney.
