Bowling Green State University has announced the keynote speaker for the second Ohio Anti-Hazing Summit, which will take place on Tuesday, Aug. 1, in the Bowen-Thompson Student Union.
Dr. Jason L. Meriwether, vice president of Enrollment Management at Campbellsville University and editor of Dismantling Hazing in Greek-Letter Organizations: Effective Practices for Prevention, Response and Campus Engagement, will provide a keynote presentation on his research and best practices in hazing prevention, education and response. The summit will also feature BGSU President Rodney K. Rogers, state leaders and additional speakers, including Shari and Cory Foltz, parents of BGSU student Stone Foltz, who died tragically following an off-campus event that was later determined to be hazing in 2021.
The free summit is open to college professionals from around the state, including practitioners for fraternities, sororities, student groups and clubs, athletic coaches, volunteers, advisors and university conduct staff. Topics will focus on prevention education, innovative resources, best practices and strategies to eliminate hazing that has plagued college campuses nationwide.
Registration is open through July 24
“We are looking forward to continued dialogue to further our work in eradicating hazing across our state and nation,” said BGSU Chief Health and Wellness Officer and Hazing Prevention Coordinator Ben Batey. “Last year’s Ohio Anti-Hazing Summit provided a collaborative forum for educators to share and learn best practices for hazing prevention and education, and we are eager to build upon that foundation at this year’s event. We are stronger when we partner and work together to stop hazing.”
Last year, BGSU welcomed nearly 200 education professionals and volunteers for the first-of-its-kind summit in the state of Ohio to the daylong event to hear from national experts and state and education leaders on hazing prevention.
