Owens receives grant for Jill of All Trades
Owens Community College has received a grant to help support the third Jill of All Trades event in October 2025. Jill of All Trades provides an opportunity for female high school students to explore careers in the skilled trades through hands-on workshops and networking with local employers and industry partners.
This initiative will be funded in part by an $8,500 grant from the Toledo Rotary Club Foundation Fund of the Greater Toledo Community Foundation. Corporate sponsorships also help fund the event.
Established in 2014 in Canada, Jill of All Trades provides firsthand learning experiences for female students in grades 9-12 to introduce them to the possibilities of a career in skilled trades, including advanced manufacturing and transportation.
Owens was the first institution in the United States to host the event in 2023. In 2024, more than 80 students from area high school participated in the event.

Terra State recognizes Reiter as trustee emerita
The Terra State Community College Board of Trustees has awarded Trustee Kay E. Reiter the distinguished title of Trustee Emerita in recognition of her service and contributions to the institution.
Reiter, who has served on the board under three Terra State presidents since 2001, concluded her tenure Dec. 31, 2024.
Reiter’s 13 years serving on the Terra Board of Trustees have been marked by a commitment to advancing postsecondary education, building partnerships and supporting students.
Her leadership included five years as chairperson, during which she played a pivotal role in guiding the college through numerous initiatives to enhance student learning and community engagement.
“Kay has been a tireless advocate for Terra State and its mission to deliver high-quality education and training to our community,” said 2024 Board Chair Mike Waleryszak, who nominated Reiter for emeritus status. “Her leadership and dedication have left an indelible mark on the college and the students we serve.”
In addition to her work at Terra State, Reiter has been a trailblazer for women in community leadership roles, serving with the Sandusky County Chamber of Commerce, the Sandusky County Economic Development Corporation, and numerous other boards. She has also held roles as a township trustee and Sandusky County commissioner, demonstrating a commitment to public service.
