HPLM offering model train display, miniature train rides

For the past 28 years, the Hayes Train Special has been a beloved holiday tradition at Hayes Presidential Library and Museum. This year’s display will open Friday, Nov. 24.
The multi-tiered display features a variety of trains that wind through a winter wonderland reminiscent of President Rutherford B. Hayes’ day. Visitors can get involved by pushing buttons that run one of the trains, turn the Ferris wheel, send the ice skaters gliding across the pond and more.
Admission to the train display, which is located in the museum auditorium, is free. A donation box will be available for those who wish to make a gift to Hayes Presidential for the display.
The “Hayes Train Special” will remain on exhibit though Sunday, Jan. 7, 2024.
        Miniature train rides
To celebrate the opening of the Hayes Train Special, on Nov. 24, Romick Railway of Findlay will bring its trackless train to HPLM and offer rides around the exterior of the museum.
Rides will be offered from 1-4 p.m. and will last about five minutes. Tickets are $5 for ages 12 and older, $4 for ages 3-11 and free for ages 2 and younger.
Tickets are available online at rbhayes.org/news/2023/11/01/general/ride-miniature-train-through-spiegel-grove-see-model-trains-in-museum/. Walk-ins also are welcome.
Tickets will be sold for an hour time-slot, allowing ticketholders to come any time during that hour and ride when there is space available on the train.
The train rides and “Hayes Train Special” are part of Hayes Presidential’s holiday series of events, called “A Presidential Christmas.”
Hayes Presidential is located at Spiegel Grove at the corner of Hayes and Buckland avenues, Fremont. For information, call 419-332-2081, visit rbhayes.org or follow Hayes Presidential on social media.
