Grant sought for street project
Walbridge Village Council heard the first reading Wednesday of an ordinance to participate in the Ohio Public Works Commission grant program.
The village is hoping to receive funding to help pay for the cost of repairing Allen Street and Holly Drive, Mayor Ed Kolanko said.
“We want to repave, install new curbs, and possibly improve the drainage there,” the mayor said. “We’re talking about three blocks but it’s about a $650,000 estimate. We’re trying to look at all sources of grant money for funding. The application has to be in by September so we want to move forward with that and see how we score compared to the other projects that apply.”
In the most recent round of OPWC funding, the village received a combination loan/grant for resurfacing Walbridge Road.
Vacancy discussed
The mayor said more than 25 candidates have applied to fill a full-time position in the maintenance department.
Dustin Haar is resigning his position.
Council met in executive session to discuss the vacancy.
“We have it narrowed down to a few for a second interview. We haven’t seen this kind of interest or excitement in our staffing for a while,” the mayor said. “I hope that we can have it narrowed down so we have a candidate I can present to council at its next meeting.”
