Motorcycle Training Courses
As the weather warms, Owens Community College wants to make sure motorcyclists are safe on the road through proper training.
The College’s Workforce and Community Services is offering Motorcycle Safety Training courses until mid-October. Although seats are limited and classes fill, space may be available on a standby basis.
No experience is necessary to take the course. The only requirement is a valid two-wheel temporary instruction permit identification card at the beginning of the class.
In the training, students will be required to complete four hours in the classroom and then 12 hours of riding, all on the Owens Community College Toledo-area Campus. Motorcycles are provided during the course and students are required to provide all their own gear.
Once successfully completed, students earn a 60-day BMV skill test waiver for a motorcycle endorsement.
The cost to participate is $50.
For additional information, contact the College’s Workforce and Community Services at 567-661-7357.
To register, visit motorcycle.safety.gov and specify Wood County.

Terra State commencement
Terra State Community College honored its 54th graduating class with commencement ceremonies held May 5.
Among this year’s class, 191 students earned associate degrees and 151 students were awarded certifications during the ceremony held at the College’s Student Activities Center.
Terra State President Dr. Ronald Schumacher congratulated the Class of 2023 on their achievements and wished them success in their future endeavors.
“Graduates, always be proud of your accomplishment, and never stop learning and growing. Remember that no one can take this accomplishment away from you,” he said.
Terra State Student Government President and member of the graduating class, Zachary Allgyre, gave the student address. He reflected on his journey of joining the workforce after high school but soon realized he wanted something more and enrolled at Terra State to pursue a degree in Agribusiness Management. Today, he is doing what he loves – working on the family farm and taking a lead role in bringing technology to the operation. “Know that if ‘Plan A’ doesn’t work out, your ‘Plan B’ may be a blessing in disguise. Measure your life in acres, not in hours,” he said.
The commencement address was given by Jeff Doepker, president and CEO at Findlay-based The Doepker Group, who encouraged the graduates to embark on their path forward to always build strong relationships with the people they interact with.
Among the Terra State 2023 spring graduates, the youngest was 17 years old and the oldest was 56 years of age. Six graduates are veterans and their deployments have included Afghanistan, Iraq and Saudi Arabia.
Eleven graduates were high school students who received their associate degrees.
