Fred Smith

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Fred Smith, beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend. Fred left us peacefully at Hospice of  Northwest Ohio in Toledo, Ohio, on October 29, 2024 after a courageous battle with dementia. 

Fred was born on March 14, 1950. He grew up in East Toledo and has been a resident of Lake Township, Ohio for the last 30 years. Fred dedicated over 30 years to his work at Pilkington (LOF). He was a passionate car enthusiast and a proud member of the Rossford Fraternal Order of Eagles, Northwood VFW, and the Northwest Ohio Street Machines Car Club. His pride and joy was his stunning red 1962 Impala Super Sport, which he loved to restore and showcase. Fred particularly enjoyed attending car shows and drag races, with a special fondness for the James Dean car show. Fred had a deep appreciation for 50s and 60s music. His jukebox filled his home with melodies that brought joy to family and friends.

Fred is survived by his loving wife, Mary Smith; children Fred (Donna) Smith Jr. and Barbie Pelfrey; stepchildren Rachel (Greg) Linkous and Sarah Larson (Jason Smith); ten grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. 

He will be deeply missed and his spirit will live on in the hearts of all who knew him. Arrangements are being handled by Freck Funeral Chapel.
