As part of an effort to make world-class fitness free and accessible in beautiful public spaces across the country, the City of Oregon has partnered with National Fitness Campaign (NFC) to bring a Fitness Court® to Coontz Recreation Complex.
Invented by NFC, the Fitness Court® is an outdoor bodyweight circuit training gym, featuring all-level workouts that can be completed in as little as seven minutes a day. The city of Oregon is one of only 200 cities and schools selected in 2019 to install this state-of-the-art facility. The new Fitness Court is suitable for adults (ages 14 plus) of all fitness abilities and completely free of cost. By pairing the gym with its free mobile app users can take classes, learn workout routines, and get fit — all in their own local park.
“The Oregon Rec is excited to bring the Fitness Court to Oregon not only to provide more health and wellness opportunities for youth and adults but to enhance wellness in a fun & exciting way for our Community.” Sommer Vriezelaar, Oregon Parks & Rec Marketing & Communications Coordinator
The Oregon Fitness Court® is part of a nationwide effort launched by National Fitness Campaign to get people excited about health and wellness. 180 select communities and 20 elite universities were invited to join the Campaign this year, Oregon was selected based on its continued dedication to adding public resources for the betterment of its residents. Oregon’s Fitness Court is only the second in the state, following the city of Avon, OH who installed theirs in June of 2018.
” I am happy we are able to bring an amenity to the Rec Facility that serves a portion of our community that a lot of our programs do not. “ Hank Fox, Oregon Parks & Rec Program Coordinator
On Friday, May 17 from 4-6 p.m., all residents, local businesses and media outlets in the region are invited to test out the new facility and its matching mobile app during a free-to-attend Launch Party event! Attendees will be taught to use the Fitness Court® effectively through a series of express boot camps and demonstrations. The event will also feature a quick fitness challenge and healthy snacks from local vendors. Athletic wear is encouraged, and all those interested in participating should RSVP at: https://urlzs.com/8Qgf
“We at the Orec are excited that all the planning is complete and that the Fitness court is ready for the citizens of Oregon.   This addition is another step in the process of making the Orec Coontz Complex more than sports fields but a complete recreation complex.”  Tim Borton, Oregon Parks & Rec Commisioner
National Fitness Campaign, a social enterprise founded in 1979, partners with local communities and nationwide sponsors to promote healthy infrastructure.
