Elwood G. "Butch" Johns

Elwood G. “Butch” Johns, 82, of Oak Harbor, Ohio, passed away Wednesday, September 7, 2022 at Hospice of Northwest Ohio, Toledo, Ohio. He was born in Oak Harbor on March 3, 1940, a son of the late Ray & Edna (Wendt) Johns. A 1958 graduate of Salem-Oak Harbor High School, Butch attended the University of Toledo, and earned his Bachelors and Masters degrees from Bowling Green State University.

Butch was a very well organized math teacher, football, basketball,  and track coach, and administrator for many years for Benton-Carroll-Salem Schools. Known for watching several sports at the same time on TV, he was an ardent fan of The Ohio State Buckeyes and the Clemson Tigers. Butch was an avid golfer and a mainstay at the Oak Harbor Golf  Club in his retirement. He was also a member of St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church, Oak Harbor.

Surviving is his wife, Karen (Hetrick) Johns; daughter, Amy Johns, Ft. Lauderdale, FL; son, J.P. Johns, St. Johns, FL; and sisters, Frances Wilson, Faye Rife, and Karen Sue Anderson. He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Bud Johns and Jerry Johns; and sisters, Joann Siefke and Barbara Sprouse.
