Dr. Edward W. Kieffer

Dr. Edward W. Kieffer passed away peacefully Monday, January 24, 2022. He was born March 20, 1928 in Toledo, Ohio to Edward F. and Vivian (Emmel) Kieffer. Doc grew up in Toledo’s east side, graduating from Waite High School in 1946. He continued his studies at The University of Toledo, and The Ohio State University Medical School, receiving his M.D. degree in 1954. After his residency with Mercy hospital, he served two years in the U.S. Army, one of which was as a medical advisor to the Third Republic of Korea Army.

He was wed to Mary L. Brancheau in 1957, and shortly thereafter partnered with Dr. Paul Ridenour to open their medical practice in Elmore. This practice continues today as “Elmore Medical”.

He was known as a highly competent and effective physician who, while sometimes a bit cantankerous, was always focused on providing the highest quality care possible to his patients.

Although a very private person, especially in his later years, Doc had a variety of interests from hunting and fishing to the symphony and poetry, and of course he always loved a good dry gin martini (with three anchovy olives).

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Mary, and his daughter Susie.  He is survived by his sons Bill (Nikki) and Tom (Bob); five grandchildren Nathaniel (Liz), Traci, Benjamin (Shelby), Ryan, and Jeremy. He is also survived by four great-grandchildren.

Ever-dedicated to medicine his remains are donated the University of Toledo Medical Center for research.

No services are planned at this time. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the charity of your choice. Online condolences may be shared with the family at;
