Coy students, staff bury time capsule
Students and staff headed outside on May 14 to make history and bury a time capsule at Coy Elementary School in Oregon.
All Coy students and staff contributed to the time capsule, which was buried in front of the flagpole.
Most classrooms made some type of “all about me” treasure. The entire student body drew a picture on a piece of fabric and parent Elizabeth Steele, created a gigantic quilt face mask for inclusion in the capsule.
Also included were newspapers from 2021, as well as pictures and other significant items relevant to this past year.
School librarian, Sherry Shaheen, dedicated a book titled, “In the Year 2020,” to the time capsule. Every student was able to sign the book.
“There will be a letter archived in our library that will tell future Coy Rams where and when the time capsule is to be exhumed,” Principal Amy Molnar said.
A plaque resting atop the time capsule reads, “Coy Elementary School 2020-2021 Time Capsule, Remembering the ‘lost year’ – gone, but not forgotten. Buried May 2021. Exhume and open May 2041.”
