County fairs offer exhibitions, entertainment and much more

             The forecast is “fair” in Northwest Ohio, as organizers are putting the final plans in place for the Lucas, Ottawa, Wood and Sandusky county fairs.
        County fairs are a cherished and much-anticipated tradition in these parts and, while each is unique, all offer a wide range of exhibitions, entertainment and events for the whole family.
        Highlights of the upcoming fairs (subject to change) include:
       
        The 164th Annual Lucas County Fair will be held July 11-17 at the county fairgrounds, located at 1406 Key St., Maumee.
        The fair welcomes participants of all ages. In 2021, more than 5,000 exhibitors entered for judging at the fair in a variety of competitions and categories including livestock, horticultural and agricultural products, fine arts, domestic arts, antiques and collectibles, culinary and baked goods and many more.
        Daily highlights include:
        Saturday: Greater Toledo Veterans Ride.
        Monday: Fair official start date; Fair Parade.
        Wednesday: Vintage & Custom Bike Show.
        Thursday: Kids’ Day.
        Friday: Victims of Love, Eagles Tribute Band, free concert.
        Saturday: Cornhole Tournament (register at fair); John Michael Montgomery Concert (free and upgrades available).
        Sunday: KOI Drag Racing, Car Show.

        The 58th Annual Ottawa County Fair will run from July 18-24 at the Ottawa County fairgrounds, located at 7879 W. SR 163, Oak Harbor.
        The Ottawa County Fair is officially one of the youngest county fairs in the state of Ohio, having begun at Veterans Park in the village of Oak Harbor in 1964 and moving to its current location in 1966.
        This year, fairgoers can walk and learn with the dinosaurs, with shows daily Monday through Sunday. Also visit the All American Petting Zoo and watch exotic animals and pig races all week long.
        Daily highlights include:
        July 18: Harness Racing, Grande Parade, Junior Fair King and Queen Contest.
        July 19: Rides open for duration of the fair; Harness Racing, Chainsaw Carving, Ace of Clubs Hog Calling, Cornhole Tournament.
        July 20: Senior Citizens Day (free admission for seniors), Chainsaw Carving, Autocross.
        July 21: Junior Fair Cornhole Tournament, Chainsaw Carving, Rafter M. Rodeo.
        July 22: Prettiest Baby Contest, Twisted Metal Demolition Derby, DJ and Karaoke with Tony Robles.
        July 23: Veterans Day (free admission for veterans), Antique Tractor Pull, Kiddie Tractor Pull, Chainsaw Carving, Barn Games presented by Ohio FFA, Chainsaw Carvings Auction, OSTPA Tractor & Truck Pulls; Square Dance with Jerry Wittman.
        July 24: Free admission courtesy of Magruder Hospital, Kids’ Fishing Derby, Open to the World Draft Horse Show, Pig Scramble, Calf Scramble.

        The Wood County Agricultural Society will present the 149th annual Wood County Fair Aug. 1-8 at the county fairgrounds, 13800 W Poe Rd., Bowling Green,

                The 170th Annual Sandusky County Fair will be held Aug. 22-28 at the county fairgrounds, located at 902 Rawson Ave., Fremont.
        Grounds entertainment free with admission, includes Dominiquez Attractions, Jurassic Kingdom and Laser Tag. Grandstand entertainment includes Fremont Speedway Races on Monday; Micro Wrestling on Tuesday; Chicken, Lam and Calf Scrambles on Wednesday; KOI Drag Racing on Thursday; country singer Tracy Byrd in Concert with opening artist Brandon Martin on Friday and a Demo Derby on Saturday.
        Thursday (Aug. 25), veterans will receive free admission courtesy of Whirlpool. It is also Senior Day, during which seniors 62 and older receive $2 admission. All events and times are subject to change.
