B-C-S students honored at  Ottawa Co. Top Ten Banquet
        Benton-Carroll-Salem School District was represented at the Ottawa County Top Ten Banquet held April 17.
        The top ten students from each of the six area schools were celebrated, along with their chosen honored educators.
        The 2024 senior class top 10 students and their honored educators are, in alphabetical order:
        • Melana Cook – Natalie Karr.
        • Spencer Heintz – Doug Slagle.
        • Phoebe Lenke – Meghan Dougherty.
        • Emma Lynch – Nadine Scott.
        • Maia Mattimoe – Russ Exlos-Raber.
        • Elaina Pollauf – Lauretta Swint.
        • Megan Rife – Natalie Karr.
        • Hollie Robinson – Ron Dowling.
        • Nicholas Slagle – Meghan Dougherty.
        • Alyse Sorg – Andrea Sorg.
        In addition, Rife was awarded one of six $500 Earl J. Johnson Scholarships, and Slagle was recognized for his Franklin B. Walter Award win.

Writing competition
        Winners honored in Trine writing competition
        Trine University and the Amy Salyer-Nicholls Writing Center honored the winners of the annual “Hear My Voice” writing competition on April 11 in Wells Theater.
        “Hear My Voice” is an annual, campus-wide writing competition organized by the Writing Center. T
        Students could enter under four categories: academic writing, poetry, creative nonfiction and fiction. Each category was judged by a faculty member from the Department of Humanities and Communication.
        Ireland Hosey, a criminal justice major from Walbridge, earned second place in the fiction category for her submission, “Dolls.”
        Winners were gifted a published text containing the winning entries. Cash prizes were also awarded. See winning entries online at trine.edu/write under Contests and Events.
 
Soltes inducted
        Alexa Soltes, of Oregon, was inducted into the Baldwin Wallace University Honors Program during the spring 2024 semester.
        Soltes, a graduate of Cardinal Stritch High School majoring in dual primary and primary intervention specialist, shared the distinction with 88 other high-achieving students.
 
Summer internship
        Lily Phommalee, of Pemberville, a junior and finance major from Bowling Green State University, will join the advisor internship program at Savage and Associates this summer.
        The program provides formal training, access to mentors, opportunities to acquire professional licenses, and other experiences.
