42nd Oak Harbor Apple Festival set for Oct. 9-10

        The Oak Harbor Area Chamber of Commerce will present the 42nd Oak Harbor Apple Festival Oct. 9-10. Hours are 9 a.m.-11 p.m. Saturday and 10 a.m.-6 p.m. Sunday.
        Held annually on the second full weekend in October, the festival typically attracts more than 25,000 visitors who come to enjoy the food, entertainment, amusement rides, games, contests and much more. All activities are located within a two-block walking area in the village.
        The schedule includes:
        Saturday, Oct. 9
        • 9:30 a.m.: Opening Ceremonies, National Anthem by Dani Fritch, Dorothy Heiks Award – Main Stage.
        • 9:45 a.m. Royalty Crowning – Main Stage.
        • 10:15 a.m.: Baking Contest Winners – Main Stage.
        • 11:30 a.m. Baby Contest – Main Stage.
        • 2 p.m.: Grand Parade – Main Street Judging.
        • 4 p.m. – Parade Awards/introduction of visiting royalty – Main Stage
        • 4 p.m.: Cornhole Tournament, Beer Garden Opens – Mill Street Parking Lot.
        • 4-7 p.m.: Karaoke by Tim & Tony – Mill Street Tent.
        • 6 p.m.: Annual Talent Show – Main Stage.
        • 6 p.m.: Bingo – Portage Fire Station.
        • 8 p.m.: Dance/Beer Tent – “The Junk” (21 and over) – Mill Street Tent.
        Sunday, Oct. 10
        • 10:30 a.m.-12 p.m.: Shoreline Church Outdoor Worship Service – Main Stage.
        • 11 a.m.-4 p.m. Portage Fire Station Open House.
        • 12:30-2:30 p.m.: Free Kids Crafts – Portage Fire Station.
        • 12-4 p.m.: Apple Festival Car Show – Oak Harbor High School.
        • 1 p.m.: Free Balloon Twisting by Sillie Tillie – Festival Strolling.
        • 1 p.m.: Youth Ages 8 & Under Apple Run – Oak Harbor Middle School.
        • 1:30 p.m. – Youth Ages 9-14 Apple Run – OH Middle School.
        • 2 p.m.: 5K Run & Walk – OH Middle School.
        • 2 p.m.: Class A Dance Studio Performance – Main Stage.
        • 3 p.m.:  Apple Run Awards –OH Middle School.
        • 3:30 p.m.: Benton-Carroll-Salem School Choirs – Main Stage.
        • 3:30 p.m.: Car Show Awards – Oak Harbor High School.
        In addition, a baking contest will be held Friday, Oct. 8 at 6 p.m. at the Municipal Building. Baked goods will be sold Saturday at 10:30 a.m. on Church Street near the Main Stage.
        Boy Scouts will hold their Apple Butter Stir & Sale beside the Main Stage on Saturday and Sunday. Also on Saturday and Sunday, festival goers can enjoy amusement rides located in Mill Street parking lots, and look for bargains at a rummage sale at St. John Lutheran Church.
        Additional parking is available at Oak Harbor High School. Shuttle rides to and from the festival will be available for $1 each way.
