41st Oak Harbor Apple Festival set for Oct. 12 and 13

        The Oak Harbor Area Chamber of Commerce is sponsoring another weekend of activities, food and entertainment at the 41st Oak Harbor Apple Festival, set for Oct. 12 and 13 in the Ottawa County village.
        Festivities kick off Saturday morning at 9:30 a.m. with the opening ceremonies, where the winner of the baking contest will be announced, along with the crowning of the Royalty Court, followed by the baby/toddler contest at 11:30 a.m. The Grand Parade will start at 2 p.m. on Saturday.
        At 4 p.m., guests can participate in a double-elimination cornhole tournament in the Croghan Colonial Bank parking lot. The entry fee is $25 per team of two. Cash prizes will be awarded to the top three teams. A Talent Contest will start at 6 p.m.
        On Saturday night, “Applepalooza,” will feature live bands and a beer tent. Local band THe jUNK will be among the performers.
        The fun continues Sunday with a Classic Car Show and the 5K Apple Run. The 3.1-mile run will start and finish at Oak Harbor Middle School.
        A craft show will run in conjunction with the festival at the VFW Memorial Hall. Show hours are 10 a.m.-7 p.m. Saturday and 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Sunday.

        4 p.m.: Cornhole Tournament, Beer Garden Opens, Mill Street Parking Lot
        6 p.m.: Talent Show, Main Stage
        8 p.m.: Dance/Beer Tent featuring “THe jUNK,” 21 and over, Mill Street Tent

        10:30 a.m.-noon: Shoreline Church Outdoor Worship Service, Main Stage
        11 a.m.-4 p.m.: Portage Fire Station Open House
        12-4 p.m.: Apple Festival Car Show, Oak Harbor High School 12:30-2:30 p.m. Free Kids Crafts, Portage Fire Station
        1 p.m.: Youth Ages 8 & Under Apple Run, Middle School
        1:30 p.m.: Youth Ages 9-14 Apple Run, Middle School
        2 p.m.: 5K Run & Walk, Middle School
        2 p.m.: Oak Harbor High School Music Performance Group, Main Stage
        2:30 p.m.: Kids Fishing Derby, Portage River-Mill Street
        3 p.m.: Apple Run Awards, Middle School

        On Saturday and Sunday, there will be bingo at the Portage Fire Station; a Boy Scout Apple Butter Stir & Sale in the park; rides and games in Mill Street parking lots and a rummage sale at St. John Lutheran Church.
        Park for free at Oak Harbor High School and ride the tour train to the festival for $1 each way.
