‘Build My Future’ event opens doors to construction careers
High school students from across Northwest Ohio and the surrounding areas had the chance to explore career opportunities in the construction industry at an event held Oct. 12 at the Wood County Fairgrounds.
The one-day “Build My Future” event, hosted by the Home Builders Association of Greater Toledo (HBA), was dedicated to introducing high school students to the world of construction careers. With interactive learning labs hosted by businesses in the skilled trades and building industry, the event provided students with hands-on opportunities to experience the various aspects of their potential future careers.
“Build My Future” highlights included:
• Interactive Learning Labs: Students participated in hands-on activities hosted by experts in the construction industry. These labs provided a firsthand look at the skills and technologies used in construction careers.
• Equipment Operation: Students had the opportunity to get behind the controls of equipment used in construction, giving them a taste of the work that awaits them in the field.
• Educational Displays: Educational exhibits and displays offered insights into different career paths within the industry.
• Networking opportunities: Students had the chance to connect with professionals, ask questions and gain insights into potential career paths.
“We are thrilled to host ‘Build My Future’ and provide high school students with a hands-on experience that can ignite their interest in construction careers,” said Jennifer Lynch, executive director of the HBA. “This event was a fantastic opportunity for students to explore the diverse and fulfilling opportunities that the home building industry has to offer.”
