Oregon City Council on Monday will consider applying for Water Pollution Control Loan Funds from the Ohio Environmental Protection Agency for the construction of a building that will dewater sludge at the wastewater treatment plant.

The goal is to dewater and landfill sludge, which is considered more cost-efficient than applying liquid sludge to land.

The city has been moving away from applying liquid sludge to land after receiving complaints over the years from some residents living downwind from farmland where it has been applied. They believe its application has caused rashes and other medical ailments.

Imagine going on vacation and having it turn into a service trip.

That's what happened to a group of local people who traveled to Tennessee recently and found themselves on the edge of the wildfires that have ravaged the Gatlinburg area over the past few weeks.

A group of 41 people from Northwest Ohio, including Gibsonburg, Luckey, Oregon, Pemberville and Woodville, took a trip with Star Tours of Ohio to Pigeon Forge, which is located just over eight miles northwest of Gatlinburg in the Smoky Mountains near the North Carolina border. Gatlinburg is home to the Great Smoky Mountains National Park and Pigeon Forge, where Dolly Parton is from, and is where the Dollywood theme park is located.

Oregon City Council on Monday will consider conducting a study on whether to fill in 130 acres of Maumee Bay with dredged sediments next to Facility 3.
The study would look at creating a wetlands, but at a cost of filling in the open shallow waters of the bay, something environmentalists have long opposed.
Council will consider entering into an agreement with the Toledo-Lucas County Port Authority to receive funding through the Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR) for planning and preliminary design of wetland restoration and enhancement at Facility 3.
