A safety issue was the chief reason Covenant Harbor manager Sue Perrin said she visited Oak Harbor Village Council on Monday.

Since the village opened parking on the north end of Veterans Park for the flag football league, parking issues have posed serious problems for nearby Covenant Harbor, a senior living community on Finke Road, Perrin told council. Game spectators have been parking along the apartment complex driveway and on the grass.

Oak Harbor Village Council is on the hunt for a new engineering firm to help solve its sewage back flow problem.

Council voted unanimously Monday night not to hire its regular consultant Poggemeyer Design Group of Bowling Green to undertake a proposed two-phase “no feasible alternatives study” to  investigate  malfunctions that left some  residents mopping up messes in their homes after heavy rains.

The Press encourages responses to articles and opinions. In order to provide for fair comment, The Press will have the following policy covering election letters to the editor:

The last issue for letters regarding the Nov. 5, 2013 election will be the second issue (Oct. 28)  before the election. No letters will be published in the issue immediately prior (Nov. 4)  to the election except for letters limited to direct rebuttal of election-related issues appearing in the second to last issue

No new political information can be introduced in the issue immediately before the election. This is to prevent inaccuracies without a fair chance for correction.

Letters are limited to ballot issues. The Press does not print letters about candidates’ races.

Letters should be no more than 300 words and include a phone number and address for verification purposes. No anonymous letters will be printed. The deadline is Wednesday, Noon.
