After completing his training and receiving the required certification, Leonard will be on duty May 22 in Clay Township where he’ll be on patrol with police chief Terry Mitchell.

Leonard, a 50-pound pit bull, is the newest addition to the township police department and has been trained for narcotics detection.

The Lake Township trustees have opted to not allow the cultivation, processing and dispensing of medical marijuana in the township.

The trustees voted unanimously Tuesday on a resolution to prohibit the practices that are allowed after a new state law went into effect last year with the passage of House Bill 523.

With a proposal by FirstEnergy to devalue property at its nuclear power plants pending before the Ohio Department of Taxation, two Ohio legislators are sponsoring an amendment to the state budget bill to protect school districts against losses of tax revenues.

Oregon Clean Energy Center, located at 816 North Lallendorf Road in Oregon, has delayed its final round of steam testing at its power plant so it does not affect “The Biggest Week in American Birding,” an annual event that draws people from around the world to observe migrating birds.
The first round of steam testing over a two week period in March created concerns in the area due to the loud noise coming from the facility, which is about to begin operations. The noise was described by one resident living about a half mile from the plant as “extreme,” and likened it to the roar of a jet engine.
“We’re more than a mile from it,” a man last week told The Press. He said he lives near Pearson Metropark, and that the steam testing sounded like a “roar.” “When the windows are closed, you can hear it.”

If Holly Henn has her way, many Ottawa County residents on July 3 will be standing hand-in-hand along the Lake Erie shoreline or hoisting their boat flags.

The Elmore resident is coordinating efforts in the county for All Hands On Deck, a non-partisan   event planned to express support for continued funding of the Great Lakes Restoration Initiative and increase public awareness of the importance of sustaining the lakes’ ecosystem.
