The Woodville Planning Commission is recommending changes to the village zoning ordinance covering the definition of home offices and home-based businesses.

The commission’s recommended definition of a home office is: A secondary use of a residential dwelling for professional office activities. Typically the office use would be ancillary to business activity conducted elsewhere. Residences of accountants, architects, artists, authors, clergy, landscape architects, lawyers, professional engineers, professional land surveyors, real estate agents, teachers or similar professions are examples of such use where the office would not involve use of special equipment or vehicles. A zoning permit is not required for this property use.

Given the opportunity, who wouldn’t appreciate some “spa time” – a pampering shampoo and haircut, a relaxing facial and getting their nails done?

Our four-legged friends can benefit from some pampering too, but getting the family pooch to the groomer can be time-consuming and troublesome, especially for canines that get anxious or sick on car trips.

My Dad started his business, Grosjean Import Service, in 1982, after more than 30 years as a mechanic in automobile dealerships. His career as a mechanic began with Hudson in the 1940s, then Rambler and American Motors, then branched off into VW, BMW, Porsche, and Audi in the 1960s and 1970s. On the walls of his office also hang certificates from GM, Subaru, and the ASE.

Although originally an import repair shop, things changed over time. Dad got involved with Model T Fords, because that’s what he drove as a kid. He bought a couple of restored Model T’s in the early 1990s, and began to drive them for pleasure, in parades, and on weekend trips.

The mix of transportation infrastructure in Lake Township and the possibility of an accident requiring residents to be notified quickly of an evacuation order was a major factor in his research of emergency phone alert systems, Lake Township Police Chief Mark Hummer said.

Acting on the chief’s recommendation, the township trustees at their last meeting approved a three-year contract with One Call Now GEO, Rossford, O., to provide emergency and public service phone notices for residents and businesses.

Sheriff Bratton calls bypass surgery a success
Ottawa County Sheriff Bob Bratton has begun a rehabilitation program following triple coronary bypass surgery June 1 at St. Vincent Mercy Medical Center.

In a prepared statement, the sheriff said physicians and support personnel at St. Vincent and St. Charles, where he underwent a preliminary evaluation in the emergency room, “did an excellent job.”
