For the second time in two months police have made a major marijuana bust in Lake Township.

A township officer Tuesday stopped a pick-up truck about 5:45 p.m. on U.S. 20 near Luckey Road for not having a front license plate. The officer noticed a smell of marijuana from the bed of the truck and called for the department’s K-9 unit.

Police Chief Mark Hummer Wednesday said about 250 one-pound bags of marijuana were found in the truck. They had been stored in five containers.

With all of the doom and gloom in the news concerning the sagging real estate market, increasing numbers of foreclosures, layoffs, and disappearing retirement accounts, one couple has decided to “keep on keeping on.”

For the last seven years, Marty Roman and his wife Becky Boswell have been busy beautifying and protecting Kessler Park in east Toledo.

“I started cleaning up the park in 2001,” Roman, who is retired from Iron Workers Local 55, said. “We adopted the park officially in 2005.”

Representatives from the District 2 office of the Ohio Department of Transportation have confirmed they’ll attend the June 2 meeting of the Lake Township Board of Trustees to discuss the State Route 51/Millbury Road intersection.

ODOT District Deputy Director David Dysard says in an e-mail response to the township solicitor that “…at least two of us from the District 2 office…” will attend the meeting “…to field questions and discuss the most effective strategies to deal with safety issues at the intersection.”

Throughout the school year, 145 Penta Career School students have been constructing a 2,600-square-foot house as part of their career training.

The house, which is being constructed for the Visser family, is located at 423 Hillside Dr. in Rossford. It will be open to the public Sunday, May 17 from 1 to 4 p.m. Parking will not be available on Hillside Drive. Visitors are asked to park at Eagle Point Elementary School, 203 Eagle Point Rd., where a shuttle bus will run every 15 minutes.
