Northwood City Council voted against renewing contract negotiations with a company that provides the city’s speed van, a mobile vehicle that issues citations to motorists for speeding.
 
Council on July 2 voted 6-1 to stop contract negotiations with Redflex Safety Solutions, of Arizona, to continue providing a van equipped with a camera that targets Northwood streets with a high incidence of speeding.
 
At the same meeting, council voted 4-3 to continue contract negotiations with Redflex for the stationary speed and red light photo enforcement cameras that have been installed at the intersections of Lemoyne and Woodville roads and Oregon and Wales roads since 2005.

The Downtown Curtice Athletic Club selects a local individual for its annual

DCAC Award.

For the past six years the 10-year-old club has honored individuals who have recently passed away, according to Tom Wuest, DCAC chairman of the board. This year the DCAC, which has approximately 30 members, is honoring former Curtice resident Andy Burris at its Aug. 22 event.

Burris was an iron worker who was killed April 19, 2007 in a bridge accident while finishing the Veterans Memorial Skyway (I-280). Burris, who was 36, was a member of Local 1138 and the Northwest Carpenter’s Union. He was on a work platform installing forms used to pour the bridge’s concrete bridge railing when the platform collapsed and fell to the ground just south of the westbound Summit Street overpass on the north side of the river.

The Eastwood school board was scheduled to meet this past Friday to approve a resolution seeking authorization to issue debt if the board decides to place a bond issue on the November ballot.
 
Brent Welker, school superintendent, said the board and administration should know later this week what the millage would be for Qualified School Construction Bonds the district can receive from the state.
 
The bonds are interest free, he said, and the millage will likely be in the range of 2.8 and 2.9 mills.

Jerusalem Township trustees recently reinstated health insurance coverage for elected officials and full-time employees, which they had just dropped in May.
 
Trustees Joe Gray, Rodney Graffis, and Joe Kiss voted to bring back coverage for those who want it, but at a reduced cost.
 
It was an about face for Gray and Graffis, who had voted to drop coverage at a meeting on March 24 to save the township $50,000 per year. Kiss had voted to continue coverage, but was outvoted.

A reward fund established in the case of an elderly Sandusky County couple who were beaten in their home has surpassed $5,000.
 
The Sandusky County Sheriff’s Department is offering a reward for information that leads to the conviction of those who broke into the State Route 600 home of James and Mary Kohler in the early morning of July 2.
 
James Consolo, a detective with the sheriff’s office, said at least two males broke into the Kohler’s home while they were sleeping and assaulted them.
 
The robbers tied the couple’s hands after beating them but Mr. Kohler was able to free himself.
