Oregon city council on Monday will consider giving a 2 ½ percent raise to the city’s full-time and part-time non-bargaining employees.

The increase would be retroactive to July 1 of this year. Effective in 2010, all non-bargaining employees’ pay ranges would increase by 2 percent.

“These are our department heads, our professional, technical and supervisory employees,” said Mayor Marge Brown at a committee of the whole committee last Monday. “This is pretty much in line with all the unions,” she added.

Oregon and Toledo Edison have reached an agreement on plans to extend an electric transmission line to serve a new substation at St. Charles-Mercy Hospital.

At a council meeting on Oct. 26, Trent Smith, regional president of Toledo Edison, said discussions with the city were at an impasse due to the city’s desire to have poles and lines that are aesthetically appealing, which increased the cost of the project.

The city had initially preferred an underground line, but it was later deemed too expensive. Steel poles, which don’t have unsightly guide wires that wood poles have for support, were also considered expensive.

Oregon City Council at a committee of the whole meeting Monday debated the need for a concession stand and restroom facility to serve the recreation department’s new South Recreation Complex.

Council was considering whether to place on next week’s agenda an $11,280 contract with Buehrer Group Architecture & Engineering, Inc., for architectural and engineering services for the design of the new concession stand and restroom facility. The matter was referred to a recreation committee meeting scheduled for Dec. 7 for further discussion.

The site for the proposed new concession and restroom facility would be on city owned property located off Starr Extension Avenue west of the access drive and parking lots in the middle of the soccer and flag football fields.

A grant of $100,000 from FirstEnergy Solutions to Lake Township comes with no strings attached, Tom Hays, township solicitor, informed the township’s trustees last week.

Hays said the township became eligible for the grant by signing an agreement for electric service with the utility through the Northwest Ohio Aggregation Coalition.

The trustees in June agreed to a contract with FirstEnergy for service to homeowners and small businesses that chose to not opt out of the coalition’s agreement with the company.

FirstEnergy announced last month it had signed agreements with 22 area communities that will provide about $7.4 million in grants through the company’s Powering Our Communities program.

According to police, the theft occurred Oct. 17 while the car was in the parking lot of the Wild Wings Restaurant & Lounge, 9055 State Route 2. A window had been smashed and cash and credit cards were reported stolen.
