A 44-year-old woman on S. Wynn Road reported to police last month that she was a victim of telecommunications fraud after she received a phone call from someone alleging to be from the Internal Revenue Service claiming she owed thousands in taxes.

It was snowing outside before author Terry Shaffer started his presentation at an East Toledo Club luncheon, and at first it looked like nobody would show up because of the weather.

Shaffer was there to talk about his 146-page book, Illegal Gambling Clubs of Toledo: The Chips, The Dice, The Places and Faces.

By the time he had finished, the room was full, and these were not the same East Toledo members that usually show up for these monthly luncheons.

When most second graders are asked what they want for their birthday, it’s not uncommon for them to produce a seeming endless list of the latest toys and gadgets the market has to offer. But when Destiny Martinez – a second grader at St. Kateri Catholic Academy – was asked what she wanted for her birthday, she requested just one thing.

And that one thing wasn’t even for her.

For over 32 years, Jan Pugh has been the face of Packer Creek Pottery.

Effective last November, Pugh is no longer the owner, but she plans to remain “the face” of the nationally renowned majolica pottery shop in Genoa.

The 58-year-old Pugh, a 1974 Genoa High School graduate, has passed the torch by selling the business to 2000 GHS graduate Julie Harbal. The two have a long history together.

The Village of Oak Harbor is looking for a new administrator.

Members of village council accepted the resignation of administrator Robert Pauley in the final moments of Tuesday’s council meeting.

Pauley sat silently at his desk adjacent to council as Mayor Bill Eberle read the resignation letter submitted to him a week ago. No one on council seemed surprised.
