        The work of a levy committee of volunteers was crucial to the passage last week of an income tax in the Gibsonburg School District, superintendent Tim Murray said Wednesday.

        The school board held a special meeting last week to discuss the district’s financial situation after voters strongly supported a tax issue: 880 for to 516 against, according to unofficial results of the Sandusky County Board of Elections.

        The same tax request was rejected in the November 2017 election: 677 for to 759 against.

       The Benton-Carroll-Salem school board and administration plan to spend time listening to residents in the wake of last week’s election, Guy Parmigian, superintendent, said Thursday.

        Voters rejected a 1 percent earned income tax; 1,603 for to 1,653 against, but approved a 3.89-mill property tax; 1,676 for to 1,591 against, according to unofficial results.

       The Lake Township trustees have scheduled a special meeting for May 14 to discuss a tax incentive enterprise zone agreement for FirstSolar, Inc.

        The meeting will start at 6 p.m. and be held at the Lake Middle School Media Center, 28100 Lemoyne Rd.

        The company last month announced it planned to construct a 1-million-square-foot facility to produce its advanced thin film photovoltaic module. Five hundred jobs are expected to be created.

        A special meeting of Walbridge Village Council has been scheduled for May 11 to hire a police chief.

        The meeting will be held at 1 p.m. to consider a motion to hire Kenneth Campbell as the chief. Campbell is a patrolman with the Northwood Police Department.

        The proposed contract calls for Campbell to be paid $61,500 annually and would go into effect June 1.

        Bay Area Credit Union and Edward Jones Investments financial advisor Dylan M. Clement were business winners at the 25th Annual Prism Awards hosted by the Eastern Maumee Bay Chamber of Commerce Tuesday at Sunrise Banquet Center.

        Bay Area Credit Union, which has 22 employees, was honored by the Prism judges with a General Excellence Award, which is based on performance, creating opportunity for employees and customers and engaging in civic and community involvement.
