It’s always nice to celebrate an anniversary or milestone of some sort – especially one that falls on a nice-round number like 10, 25 or 50.

On Tuesday, April 19, Lake Elementary School will do just that, celebrating the 50th anniversary of its existence.

Faced with declining revenues, the Wood County Solid Waste Management District is in the process of establishing a fee on locally-generated waste transported to landfills in other counties.

The Wood County commissioners have held a required public hearing to consider a resolution that implements what is called “flow control designation” for the county landfill near Bowling Green and the Evergreen Landfill in Northwood.

The 50 largest solid waste generators in the county were notified last month of the district’s intent and a public comment period on the proposed $2 per ton fee begins May 11.

Woodmore forum set for Monday night
The Woodmore school board and administration will hold their third public forum April 18 from 7-8 p.m. in the high school cafeteria.

The forums are being held to update district residents on a school tax issue on the May 3 ballot and to inform residents about the district’s financial condition.

A final forum will be held May 2 in the high school cafeteria form 7-8 p.m.

A resolution authorizing a $500,000 loan from Genoa Bank for additional costs incurred during the construction of a new township administration building has been approved by the Lake Township trustees.

Under the agreement, the 15-year loan will have a 4 percent interest rate but the township will have the option of refinancing at seven years.

There is also a $500 fee to cover costs for processing the loan.

The trustees said the loan is needed to pay for upgrades to the building not covered by insurance.

Elmore going green for energy summit 
The Village of Elmore and American Municipal Power are hosting a green energy summit Friday to offer the public, business community, and elected officials an opportunity to learn more about products and services that save energy and are easier on the environment.

The summit is scheduled to coincide with Earth Day on April 15, Mayor Lowell Krumnow said. 

The village is organizing the event in the hope it will draw local businesses that manufacture or offer green energy, bio-friendly, and energy-efficient products and services.
