The time is right for 72-year-old Hidden Hills Golf Club managing owner Mickey Pierce. He suffered a stroke two years ago and he and wife Elizabeth are ready to retire.

At 2 p.m. on July 23, the course on County Road 16, Woodville, built by Pierce’s parents and family-owned for 44 years, will be auctioned.

A bill establishing a permit program for major withdrawals of water from Lake Erie has cleared the Ohio House of Representatives, but an area legislator says it may invite a lawsuit from other states that have signed onto the Great Lakes-St. Lawrence River Basis Water Resources Compact.

Land in the Lake Township/City of Toledo Joint Economic Development District will be for sale at a starting price of about $25,000 an acre.

Robert Mack, of Signature Associates, told the Lake Township trustees Tuesday his firm is completing a marketing study and pricing analysis of the 400 or so acres that comprise the development district.

As part of the yearlong celebration of 150 years of service to youth and elderly in northwest Ohio and southeast Michigan, Lutheran Homes Society (LHS) held a site celebration June 21 for residents and employees of Lutheran Home at Toledo.

The Toledo campus, located at 131 N. Wheeling Street, is Lutheran Homes Society’s original ministry for elderly. The event featured a “Museum in a Suitcase” presentation by the Rev. Gerald Labuhn, LHS Executive Director Emeritus and Archivist. Pastor Labuhn has served LHS in various capacities for 60 years.

The Little Sisters of the Poor – Sacred Heart Home in Oregon was recognized by the State of Ohio June 21, in honor of the 125th anniversary of the Little Sisters serving the elderly poor at the Sacred Heart Home.

Sr. Ceclia Mary and Sr. Margaret traveled to the State House in Columbus, where Ohio State University President G. Gordon Gee made an introduction for the Sisters on the floor of the Senate.
